Description

Do you want to be part of an organization that is future-ready and that will be around generations from today? Then this course is for you. This course is designed to enhance your ability to understand the why, what and how of sustainable business models. Given the realities of climate change, human rights abuses and social unrest, multiple stakeholders including customers, employees, investors, regulators and activists are clamoring for change in business practices. Progressive business leaders are taking note not only because it’s the right thing to do, but also because it’s the smart thing to do as there is a strong “business case”—when done right, sustainability initiatives can not only affect positive social or environmental change but also contribute to competitive advantage, reputational gains, and long run profitability. But majority of businesses fail to leverage the power of sustainability because they treat it as an “add on” rather than embedding its principles into the DNA of the firm.

The Sustainable Business course will provide you with the requisite knowledge so that you view the role of business in society through the lens of the future and are ready to leverage the power of business to create both societal and financial value. Drawing on multiple disciplines including marketing, operations, finance and strategy, the course will blend theory and practice in a way that emphasizes both critical thinking and experiential learning. This will be accomplished through multiple components. First, through case studies and articles, you will be exposed to theories and concepts that can be applied to formulate, implement and evaluate sustainability strategies through the entire value chain—from procurement to disposal. The second, interrelated component will highlight experiential learning. Via a series of simulations, data analyses, role plays and mini-workshops, you will discover firsthand the mechanisms by which sustainability delivers both business and social returns.
